Hallo,

Een aantal bands waarvan ik de muziek echt tof vind (Mumford & Sons, Bon Iver, White Lies) hebben bepaalde liedjes waarin ze ofwel scheldwoorden gebruiken, of in één geval vloeken met "Jesus". Nou weet ik niet zo goed wat ik hiervan moet denken. Ben wel benieuwd naar meningen hierover, of dat zou kunnen of niet.

Hieronder een stukje wat ik over Mumfords & Sons heb gevonde. Volgens mij hebben ze ook in het eo blad Insite gestaan.

While their sound is very different from U2, their ability to fuse musical excellence with lyrical mastery may just make them peers. Every track on Sigh No More has a line worth pondering. Songs that at first listen sound like love/relationship tunes quickly become gateways into the spiritual journey that Mumford is living. On “Roll Away Your Stone†Mumford offers up an unforgettable definition of grace: It seems that all my bridges have been burned / But you say that's exactly how this grace thing works / It's not the long walk home that will change this heart / But the welcome I receive with every start.

“Awake My Soul†ends with the repeating lyric: You were made to meet your maker. While this sounds like it has been cherry picked from a Dirty Hairy or Terminator flick, it is likely a profession of Mumford’s narrative identity. Earlier in "Awake" Mumford declares: In the bodies we will live / In these bodies we will die / Where you invest your love / you invest your life. This is not simply a clever turn of phrase. Mumford and Sons are suggesting an entire way of seeing the world. Agree or disagree with them--that is your choice--but this band believes in a way of life. On other tracks direct quotes are borrowed. Let the dead bury the dead, a line from “Thistle and Weeds,†is straight out of the mouth of Jesus’. Whatever their background, Mumford and Sons have a history with Biblical text and it oozes out of their tracks.
